Today I was talking to a friend about the ‘anger-problem' that I was suffering from, and what I did to overcome it. He appreciated my efforts and told me that many people can gain from my experience if I shared it with them. Then he told me that I had committed a sin!
I was of course astounded.
"You've used a ‘banned' word." He explained.
He told me the word was ‘problem'.
"Whenever you feel like describing something as ‘problem', try to replace the word with ‘challenge'." He said.
Immediately I saw the brilliance of the idea. I tried the technique myself a couple of times. I was delighted to find how simple but powerful this technique was. You see, the word ‘problem' has a hint of gloom and negativity inherent in it. You have a problem means you haven't been able to solve it yet, and that's bothering you.
On the other hand the thought of facing a challenge excites you fills you with positive energy, though you know that the task is not easy (if it was, you wouldn't call it a challenge).
So though the task remains the same, what changes dramatically is your point of view. This in turn changes your approach towards it and brings a can-do approach into it, and that makes all the difference in the world. (This is my personal experience.)
You see, just by doing a simple trick of words, you've changed your attitude towards whatever was bothering you. It's like magic, isn't it?
